Meetings of all residents and allies, every Tuesday
from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m.
April 7th, 2022 - A deadly fire at a homeless encampment in West Oakland Tuesday was the last straw for Caltrans, with agency official (Cheryl Chambers) saying that all people living at Wood Street
“have to go”.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS!
California State Constitution:
All people are by nature free and independent and have inalienable rights. Among these are enjoying and defending life and liberty, acquiring, possessing, protecting property (estate)..
United States Constitution
•\\\\\\\\t“...nor be deprived RIGHTS of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law;” (5th Amendment)
•\\\\\\\\t“...nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law;” (14th Amendment)
If you want to stand your ground, lock yourself in your home or vehicle, even your tent, and don't come out. You don't even have to say anything. They need a warrant to enter. And they can't move your vehicle if you’re in it.
File an injunction against Caltrans
Buy us time, at least 6 months, to make real progress in cleaning up trash, removing abandoned vehicles, building fences, and putting in the infrastructure for water and fire abatement, and getting more people to file individual injunctions against Caltrans. Also the time is needed to do more research and investigation into the origination of the fires at Wood street.

Our plan to solve homelessness
1.The social contract
The commons is the cultural and natural resources accessible to all members of a society, including natural materials such as air, water, and a habitable earth. These resources are held in common, not owned privately. A Commons can also be defined as a social practice of governing a resource not by state or market but by a community of users that self-governs the resource through institutions that it creates.
The commons is based on a social contract, which includes “Love thy neighbor, do no harm, take care of the land and soil, take care of each other, and don't sell the land to the marketplace.”
2.The Land Trust
The Commons Land Trust would enable members in good standing to enjoy lifelong access to an area of land sufficient for them to have life and liberty. It is based on a social contract, common law, and on individuals who do not cede any of their rights. Each city will have its own Commons Land trust, and the Land trust would acquire or lease land from public and private sources, and the land could not be sold again on the open market. We are following in the footsteps of the East Bay native people, the Ohlone. They pioneered the use of the land trust to rematriate land to the original owners. https://sogoreate-landtrust.org/
3.\\\\\\\\tSelf-governance We can no longer be evicted if we own the land collectively in a trust. With land and stability, we can make common areas where we can assemble and make decisions, and enjoy culture, arts and music, and therefore have the capability to be self-governing. With land and stability, we have soil, which we can regenerate, and grow our food on. With land and stability we have the space to make our small businesses, and make those contributions to society that we choose to make, and that come from the heart.
4.\\\\\\\\tInfrastructure/cooperative Community by design The tiny home eco-village with shared infrastructure draws us outside our home, and into interactions with others in order to gain access to most of our utilities and amenities. Tiny homes are the lowest cost housing available, ranging anywhere from $600 to $10,000 in materials cost for the basic models. Tiny homes are mobile and can have wheels. Tiny homes are stylistically diverse and beautiful and fire resilient, and include cob, adobe, hay bale construction, earthbag, aircrete monolithic dome, earthship, yurt, Teepee, stretch fabric soft dome, etc.

.
Caltrans should be confronted with constructive mayhem same physical barriers before they cross our threshold - at any of the entry points, they should feel at that moment pricked in their conscience, concerned for their equipment and reputation and liability, and somewhat bewildered and distracted. For every 50 yards (or natural transition point) of incursion into our territory, they should be confronted with another layer of obstruction, overstimulation, diversion, and concern for liability. The moment they attempt to steal, confiscate, or destroy any of our property they should get "slapped' with audio/visual and vocal reminders that they are violating our basic constitutional and human rights, and will be subject to legal and financial consequences.
In addition, immediate calls should be made to members of Caltrans and the Oakland City government and the press from our residents and supporters in the community making clear the nature of our complaints and the consequences that would ensue for their actions.
Weekly meetings of Our Wood Street community will happen on Tuesdays, at 2:30-4:30pm, at Cob on Wood and on zoom. Notes from the meetings will be published at woodstreetcommons.com and on signal.
